Thanksgiving Sewathon!

So my aunt is coming up from Nashville to do Thanksgiving and I wanted to make her Christmas presents early cause I was bored today.

I made her an apron, she requested one that looked retro. Found this super cute snowflake print at Hobby Lobby in the remnant pile and with 3 almost-a-yard pieces I had some left over to make a little thing for me :) For my cousin I made a messenger bag. I found this tree print also at Hobby Lobby and I thought it was great because its not too christmassy and not girly.

So I decided that I don't like the purse that I have been hauling around, it spills stuff all the time yuck! So I made this one out of the scraps of my aunts apron!

And a close up of my new stamp! I went with my friend Debbie to my other friend Pennie's 'Stampin Up! party and I ordered this stamp and its the best thing that I have ever had. After I made these I just stamped my personal stamp and poof! everyone knows I made it. :D

I am the best Auntie

So I got out of my non-sewing funk and made a Christmas present. A pair of pj's for one of my nephews.

"I am Buzz Lightyear"

And to make this set of pj's even better than regular ones, Buzz is sewn on with glow in the dark thread. Am I awesome or what?

More Stuff

I worked on something for the kiddo today so not too much progress on the bustle but some.

I only got a yard of the velvet at Hobby Lobby today and unfortunately it's not enough to cover the back and be gathered and pretty. So I am going to go back Monday and get another yard and a half and try to hide the seam. I think that there is too much red in the front and I am thinking of a way to place some lace or something so I can see the difference between where the top ends and the skirt begins. Also I think I might place some lace at the hem and bottom of the red skirt part.

Coming tomorrow, why it is bad to love too much Doris Day.

Progress on Bustle

So I want  to wear is for haloween this year, so I got it out of hiding and looked at it again. I have taken out the white at the front and replaced it with a beautiful red velvet remnant that I picked up at Hobby Lobby.  I think it works much better than the white. What do ya'll think?

I have to go get about 1 more yard of the velvet fro the back bustle draping, but other than that I'm done!

Hello

I'm back! sorry it has been a long time. I kinda lost my sewing and blogging mojo this summer. But I am back in the swing of things now and here is my latest creation.

Niece #1 loves Dora, she is just over the moon for her. I made her a Dora dress and she wears it all the time. So her birthday is tomorrow and like the good procrastinating auntie that I am I waited until tonight to make her present. This is the dress that Dora wears in "Dora's Fairytale Adventure"

I did add purple on the arms to define the puffs a bit, and pink at the waist so that the fit would be adjustable. I think that I got close to what Dora wears. What do you think?

Oh crud I forgot the hat. Oh well I will make one tomorrow. Maybe.

Blogging Slacker

I have been such a blogging slacker. I know that I havent posted at all for a long time, but summer is in full swing here and I have lost my sewing 'want to'. But school is in a couple of weeks so I need to get crackin on school clothes. But here is a photo of what Kitten has been up to.

Her dolly clothesline.

I dont have much to show for this past week. It was VBS at church and I was so tired by the end of the night I fell in bed. I have been slowly working on the bustle dress. I have decided that hand sewing is for the birds and I am sticking to machine sewing from now on. That said, it would be nice if any of my 3 machines worked! My mom came up from her house in the boondocks to visit with us today and to work on an outside project (that I cant talk about because its my audition craft for So You Think Your Crafty). And on top of that my brother came over to visit so its been a wonderful day.

Wow!

I have received an award! Thanks to http://caffeinatedglobe.blogspot.com/ for it.

The rules for accepting the Versatile Blogger Award:

- Thank and link back to the person who gave you this award.

- Place the award button/logo in your post about the award.

- Contact the 15 bloggers and let them know about the award.

Okay so here goes.

1. I love Grey's Anatomy. I think they totally made too big a deal about Denny and swept poor George under the rug. (I was going to say bus, but that would be too mean)

2. My fav color is blue. The light light aquamarine is my absolute fav.

3. I HATE pink. My daughter loves it.

4. I like doing puzzles, I have such a good feeling when everything fits so perfectly together.

5. I have a sawdust stuffed elephant from Romania that my dad got for me when I was little. He is falling apart and my daughter tried for months to steal him when she was 2, until I got her a Horton elephant from Kohls.

6. I love to read. I will read almost anything.

7. I have never watched Lost, and I never will. (and I mean it Driddle)

Well the hard part is done now for the Winners!

In Progress

I found my bag of bustle dress, horray!  I was unsure of how the underskirt would look so I decided to do a muslin of it.

Turned out so well that I am making it my petticoat. A couple of ruffles arround the hem and it will be perfect. Also I remade the front of the bodice to include some button loops.

It looks better on me than Gertie. She has some problems. (She is very old, she was my grandma's and I dont think anyone even her knows how old Gertie is.)

So I am off to ruffle away and start cutting the underskirt out.

Rolly Polly's Birthday Dress
My little niece is turning 1 tomorrow (well today) so I sewed this little dress for her. Its nothing really special or fancy.
Back.

But I am super proud of the insides. Everything is so neat and clean.

Inside the front.

Inside the back.

In other news, I made a tent for Kitten but I need to get the poles and then I will take pictures of it!

PS. I seem to have lost the bag that had all of my bustle dress fabric, pattern and finished pieces. If anyone sees it please tell me.

Wadder Alert!
So I put aside the bustle for a little bit because my fingers were so sore from hand sewing. And I attempted to make This dress in a blue jersey.

Well I forgot to gather the front of the skirt so I tried to cut the ends to be a-line. Then I tried it on. HA HA. The 'simple a line skirt' was so tight that I almost didn't get it over my hips. After laughing so much I cried, I took of the monstrosity and put it in the scrap/to be made over pile.
Also I cut out some things last night to sew this week, now lets see if I get to do them :)

Sunday, May 23, 2010

So I have the jacket almost finished, but I am setting it aside for a couple of days because my fingers are sore. But in other news, I love chocolate cake! And I am taking a page from the Selfish Seamstress and I am making a cake all for me!

Yum, right?

Dont you just love my new Betty Crocker mixing bowl!

Before

After.

As Kitten says "All the goody-goodys are mine". But I might share, maybe. I'll think about it.

Dont you just want some?

Too bad!

More progress. The sides and front are attached, all I have to do is tack down the edges.

Forgive poor Gertie she is super old and is lopsided.

Side view. Notice how nice the shape of the jacket is?

In other news I am on an Abba kick. Now you will have Dancing Queen stuck in your head dontcha?

Progress. I tried my best to match stripes but they are still slightly off.

The back .

I still have to peice the front and attach it, but things are going well seeing as I am doing this all by hand.

Oh yes I can't forget my bustle. Also all done by hand.

So I have had this fabric in my stash since forever....

Purdy isnt it? So its been sitting in my stash forever just waiting for me to cut it and make it into something great.  Well it called to me last night, it told me to love it and use it and make it something wonderful. (Dont worry your craft projects will start talking to you too someday) So I told it not to worry I would use it next.
So you ask (scared of the reply) what are you going to do with this creepy talking fabric?

This is the pattern that I got today. And I had to go all the way to Lexington to Joanns to get it because nobody had it in Louisville or Cincinati. So after all that I will be starting on this tonight. I am going to make the bodice just like the pattern but I am not making ther skirt the way they have it, its going to be so much more dramatic.

Thank you Driddle (personalsideeffects.blogspot.com) for making me get of my couch and get pictures of my Mothers Day oufit! So here is my big project...

The whole caboodle.

Back

Front

A shot of the lining.

My friend Sarah got some free fabric on freecycle and this skirt was already cut out and it was just my size! The waistband was a tiny bit too small, but i didnt cut it out so oh well. The fabric is a winter white wool and I lined it so that it would lay nice, but it does need a good ironing. I did wear a blue cardigan with this outfit because it was chilly sunday.

Wednesday, May 12, 2010

Well I havent gotten my wonderful Husband to take pictures of my Mothers Day outfit. But here is a quick note on what I did today. I made my own JEANS!!! I am so happy and thrilled and I think I told every single person who was at church tonight. So I will stop blabbering along and show you the pictures!

The inside of the side pockets.

The back pockets. I know I know like I *need* more teapots.

I knwo the picture is not good but we had 8 kids 6 months to 3 years tonight in nursery and I was tired.

My backside. lol *insert joke here*

I put 3 belt loops on th back because I tend to pull in the middle and I wanted belt support.

Ps. Who can guess what teapot is on my pockets?
